Following an RSUA design competition, the practice was awarded the commission to design a new multi–purpose regional leisure centre. A two–phase design concept was developed in response to site and budget constraints, with phase 1 being completed in spring 2015.
The two phase approach has been achieved by placing the wet and dry facilities of the Leisure Centre on opposite sides of a central circulation spine. With the single level café block signifying the juncture between the two major blocks of phases 1 and 2.
Phase 2 includes 8 Court Sports Hall, Dry Changing, Cafe and Conference facilities, 4 Court Sports Hall, Soft–Play, crèche, Fitness Suite, Handball Court and Squash Courts. Both phases of the building are on target to achieve ‘Disability Sports Northern Ireland’s Inclusive Sports Facility’ Accreditation.
