Belfast based practice founded in 1960

Overview Project Details

Following an RSUA design competition, the practice was awarded the commission to design a new multi–purpose regional leisure centre which includes an 8 lane short course competition standard swimming pool with moving floor, a combined learner and leisure pool with flume, pool hall spectator seating, a thermal area with sauna, steam, and hydrology pool, external changing for football and Gaelic pitches, café, sports halls, fitness suite and fitness studios.

A two–phase design concept, specific to this project, was developed in response to site and budget constraints, this is the first two–phase leisure centre of this scale and complexity in Northern Ireland.

The project has been designed to meet exemplary sustainability and low carbon principles and will embody the goals set out in the Newry 2020 Low Carbon City targets. The building design is on target to achieve ‘Disability Sports Northern Ireland’s Inclusive Sports Facility’ Accreditation.
