The practice was awarded the commission to design a new multi–purpose leisure centre for Banbridge District Council following an RSUA open competition.
Facilities include a 6 lane swimming pool, learner pool, toddlers pool, leisure waters, 6 court sports hall, large fitness suite, soft play area, squash courts with a moveable wall, meeting rooms and offices.
The site has extensive parking and an artificial hockey pitch – a sport popular in the town.
Externally, the red brick walls and dark grey metal roofs reflect the Victorian mill buildings which are well known in this area of Ulster.
The plan form has two main blocks articulated with a central circulation space and the pool hall is set at an angle to the remainder, with the accommodation very tightly planned. Sustainability and energy efficiency played a key role in the clients brief.
