Overview Project Details

This new multi–funded sports complex in Downpatrick includes a main sports hall, boxing club, gym, youth club and ancillary rooms with associated car parking.

The main stakeholders in this project (which also involved the refurbishment and extension to the existing community centre) were Sport NI, DSD, South Eastern Education and Library Board, International Fund for Ireland and the Eastern Health and Social Services Board.

The Boxing Club, sports hall and changing blocks are clearly identifiable yet relate to each other through material expression and linked via a naturally lit central concourse.

The building is constructed primarily in a red clay facing brick, with white translucent glazing to the sports hall under a standing seam mono–pitched roof.

The Boxing Club is considered by Sport NI to be a Centre of Excellence for the local community.
