Kennedy FitzGerald were appointed by Urcare for the design of a new 11,000m2 Community Treatment and Care Centre for the city of Lisburn as part of a Third Party Developer bid submission. The proposed building is located within the existing Lagan Valley Hospital site, adjacent to the existing listed Maternity Unit and on the site of the former Department of Psychiatry.
The building incorporates 8 GP practices, a range of AHP services (including Podiatry, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy), Dentistry, Orthoptics, Mental Health, Children’s services, and office facilities for Outreach staff.
The accommodation is arranged around a central landscaped courtyard which is a focal point and orientation device, whilst providing therapeutic natural light and views. The central concourse at the heart of the building provides visual and physical links to all departments. The proposals utilise the existing site topography by creating a lower level of accommodation with a dedicated access for the Day Hospital.
