The overall concept of the Enler Complex is to integrate three distinct activities into one Centre – retail units for new and existing retailers from Ballybeen Square, a new day care facility for the elderly managed by South and East Belfast Trust and new community/sports facilities managed by Castlereagh Borough Council. An intensive process of stakeholder engagement of the multiple groups involved was undertaken to ensure they all achieved their various aspirations and objectives.
The extensive site includes external public spaces, a car park and specific areas for sheltered disembarkation.
The Day–Care end of the building consists of a series of specific functional areas including health promotion, art and crafts, information technology, dementia, wash and dining zones. The zones are wrapped around a central courtyard and provide a stimulating environment for the clients as well as servicing their physical and emotional needs.
