Kennedy FitzGerald were appointed as Architects and Lead Consultants for the Southern Health and Social Care Trust following a Primary and Community Care Design Competition.
The new health and care centre has been developed on the site of the former Banbridge Hospital and is adjacent to existing Trust Polyclinic and GP Services.
The building provides clinical accommodation for community outpatient treatment, activity and therapy spaces for adult daycare and is an administrative centre for Trust healthcare. Combining these three distinct functions in one “combined” building represents a new innovative and efficient building model for the delivery of primary and community care.
Accommodation is planned around central courtyards and glazed circulation to maximise natural lighting and ventilation. An atrium provides a heart to the building and establishes visual and physical connections between all four building levels
