Following competitive design development, Kennedy FitzGerald were appointed to deliver three new tertiary education college buildings for the main Downpatrick Campus (GIA 18,425sqm) and satellite colleges at Newcastle (GIA 1,063sqm) and Ballynahinch (GIA 1,338sqm).
The range of educational facilities include normal vocational training such as IT, Art, E–Learning, Hairdressing and Beauty, Sound/Audio, Catering and Science Laboratories, with each building providing reception, administration, meeting and student areas.
The new buildings also include specialised departments for construction training. This provides training for careers such as Plumbing, Bricklaying, Painting, Motor Vehicle Engineering, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
With prominent street frontages, all three buildings are fully accessible and designed to provide maximum flexibility to support future expansion and changes to the learning environment.
The designs focused on the creation of energy and environmentally efficient buildings reflected by the achievement of BREEAM Very Good ratings for all 3 sites.
