Kennedy Fitzgerald Architects LLP

Belfast based practice founded in 1960

Overview Project Details

Originally used as a Bentley and Rolls Royce showroom and later as a Bank, this refurbished historical building on Belfast’s Oxford Street provides new premises for a bespoke modern furniture showroom and office accommodation.

Kennedy FitzGerald’s design approach to the building’s cramped and dark internal spaces was to remodel the ground floor and its façade to provide commercial frontage and restore the connection with the street and the River Lagan. Where possible original industrial features that characterised the old building were retained and integrated with new partitions, fixtures and fittings.

During design and construction we worked closely with our design–conscious client in choosing materials, finishes and colours that would complement and enhance the existing building shell and provide an appropriate backcloth for display of high end furniture.
The result is a contemporary prosperous retail environment and a new lease of life for part of Belfast’s historical building stock.
