Following a condition survey of the existing building that revealed significant structural issues, Kennedy FitzGerald was appointed in 2001 for the design of a new 750 seat worship space, church offices and meetings rooms at Carnmoney Presbyterian Church.
Following presentations of three options, the Church Committee and Congregation gave approval to proceed with an exciting curved space top lit by a glazed roof lantern. The space is contemporary in feel while the use of traditional high quality materials such as ashlar stone and hardwoods anchors the building in its historic ecclesiastical context.
Prior to construction the design was audited by the William Keown Trust to ensure that all areas of the building were accessible to all.
The design has been highly influential to a number of recent Church building projects around the country.
Since completion, Kennedy FitzGerald have carried out subsequent studies for the Congregation for the development of the extensive halls complex within the same site.
